What’s your favorite ad campaign?

It’s graduation time for all of you soon-to-be advertising junior copywriters and art directors. So if you have a portfolio that will get you in the door (the first hurdle), it’s time to prepare for that face-to-face discussion. And the headline of this column is a very popular interview question. But it’s amazing the number of aspiring professionals who want to get into the industry can’t name one. It’s also amazing the number of people who work in the industry can’t even name one. But I bet you can. What is it? Please list it in the comments section. If not for me (I always like to know what people like), do it to help all those soon-to-be junior copywriters and art directors. After all, if you don’t tell them what to think, who will?

adidas TAKE WHAT YOU WANT. Late 90's, Fat BoySlim Soundtrack, start of a new job, in a new country, in a pub, football half time and this ad' came on, the entire pub carried on watching the ad' after the game. Hairs on the back of my neck stood up, I've never seen that many people watch an ad' at the same time.

Playstation - 'Double Life'

Any time I get told that copy isn't important any more, I think of this ad. It's what made me want to become a copywriter.

Recent campaign? Talk to Chuck campaign for Charles Schwab -- it was done in house, which I think makes it all that much more interesting in some ways. I love the art direction. And how it took a financial ad to something other than soft-focus pictures of financial secure people.

Campaign slightly older? I loved the Gap khaki with the swing dancers. I assume that was done in house too as is Gap's want. Just joie de vivre there.

Classic campaign? DDB's VW beetle ad. How can you not love those ads? The perfect marriage of copy and art direction.
